Harlow came from a litter of three black dogs and three black bitches. In 1995, Harlow passed the FEMA Level II Basic Certification Test which allowed Harlow to be deployed by FEMA as a rubble dog. In December 1999, Harlow was one of four dogs that responded to the Worcester Cold Storage Warehouse fire, where six firemen lost their lives. (You can see another photo of Harlow at Worcester by going to the following website: http://www.pilgrimdobe.org and clicking on the icon, "PDPC Members in Action."
Recently, Harlow passed the Massachusetts Search and Rescue Dog Wilderness Certification Test which enables Harlow to search for missing people in Massachusetts.
Harlow's owner Gail McCarthy, together with Shirley Hammond have written an article about Harlow and about Search and Rescue Dogs, which can be seen in the Danika Library of Dobermann related articles.
